It was officially announced on RTB that Brunei Darussalam will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidil Fitri on Thursday 2nd October 2008 and that means hari raya will fall on A-Shift 2nd morning! So lucky for those who applied their leave on that day..

It was quite a suprised that the new moon was not sighted given that our neighbouring country will be celebrating aidilfitri tomorrow! Entah lerr..kuasa Tuhan!

Anyway here again wishing everybody SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDIL FITRI MAAF ZAHIR BATIN.

BLNG MD Challenge Trophy Bowling Tournament 2008

A total of 32 teams took part in the tournament which was held on the 12th, 13th & 19th April 2008 at the Utama Bowling center.

During the tournament A-shift were represented by two teams with a mixtures of experience and not-so-experience players. The teams were Rumplestiltskin, which was captained by Jupry and I’m Legend, captained by Shahfren. As of current standing (19/04/2008) team Rumplestiltskin still on second place with a total of 2047 pin falls behind team Hitman from B-shift. We'll post the update of the final results once the tournament is concluded today..

Anyhoos, congratulations to both teams for a job well done!

A-Shift Appreciation Day 2007

On the 16th December last year, A-Shift held their annual appreciation day at Pantai Muara. It was the first time that such an event was held outdoor. The day was filled with fun and games for adults and kids. There was also some exciting prizes for the lucky draws. And it was decided that the grand lucky draw winner will automatically became the chairman for this year's event and that lucky guy was awang Mansor...Apart from games there was also free balloons and bouncers for the kids.

We also took the opportunity to present a little momentos from the shift to our ex-staff, Hj.Yusuf and Hiew Tung Fook who transferred to POP/31 and retired respectively.

The event ended around 4 pm in the evening with everyone headed home feeling tired and happy...so till we meet again in this year's appreciation day..InsyaAllah and with new chairman and committees!

Hj.Yusuf's Farewell Dinner

A farewell dinner was held last night for our colleague, Hj.Yusuf Thani who will be leaving BLNG to take a new post in BSP (POP/31) after serving BLNG for a remarkable 25 years service. He was a senior panel co-ordinator in the Utilities section in A-Shift.

During his days in BLNG, Hj.Yusuf was an active person in sport, especially football, and was a popular figure among the staff in A-shift for his pleasant and funny characters. He was also a good mentor to the younger generation in A-shift and at anytime willing to share his knowledge and know-how regarding the plant.

On behalf of the A-shift staff we would like to wish Hj.Yusuf the very best of luck in his new job and may success be with him always.

Another Fishing Outing..

A-Shift guys went for another fishing outing this morning at Danau beach. This time around the result was quite satisfactory. We manage to catch three "kerapu", a "tumbang" and a baby stingray.

Faizal opening his account with a "tumbang" fish followed by a "kerapu" few miutes later...before he caught this fish, Faizal 'tumbang' (fell) face down in the water, while manouvering himself, due to the slippery suface of the rocks...what a coincidence! Hehehe...

Another Failed Attempt..

This morning, after working night shift, we went for another fishing outing at the Kuala Tutong/Danau river and again it was a really disappointed outing! The fish seems to distant itself away from our live shrimp bait..not even a single piece of our bait was taken except for two instances where Shahfren's bait was snatched by a crab but unluckily he didn't managed to lift the crab to 'safety'!

After trying for four hours we finally called it a day! Though all we got was a sun burn but we determine to come back again in the future..!

The much anticipated 11th NBT Treasure Hunt will be held on the 8th July 2007 (Sunday). And luckily guess what? It fell on A-Shift 2nd off day! And what does it means? It means A-Shift treasure hunters will be able to join in the hunt for the 8th consecutive years! Yehoooo...!!

So A-Shift hunters be prepared physically and mentally starting from now though it's still long way to go...I bet you don't want to get frustrated again as in the previous years!

And just to remind you all that it is on a first-come-first-served basis and limited to the first 200 sedans only! So why wait, find a partner (don't disturb Mansor...leave him alone! He's ours! I found this interesting clip from fellow blogger and searched YouTube for it...it's a bit surprising how a person who is totally not a Bruneian appreciated and loved our country so much especially Kuala Belait where he used to stay for two years...! "I lived in Brunei Darussalam for two years and some months. We were stationed in the exciting city of Kuala Belait (KB), near the border of Malaysia, where we would make regular trips to stock up on beer and wine, which can not be sold (legally) in Brunei. I joined up with three other expats - a Scotsman, an Irishman and an Englishman, [no, I'm not telling a joke!] to form a folk group called The Belaiters (pronounced "Blighters"). Fortunately two of the others were good guitarists so I could get away with a bit of background strumming.
Realising that most of the great cities of the world had songs written about them, I thought it was time to celebrate KB in song. So I wrote this to sing at some of our performances. It will not make a lot of sense to people unfamiliar with the delights of this great cosmopolitan city, but I'll be happy to answer any questions about the lyrics. "

Last Sunday (13th May 2007) marked the most important event in Shahrul's life...he officially left the "bachelor club" to start a new life as a married man. Shahrul decided to end his bachelorhood and chosen Normadinahwati as his life time partner..

Fishing Adventures At Danau River

A-shift guys during a fishing expedition at Danau river...still full of energy eh after night shift...hmmmm...Sounds "fishy" out there...hehehe

Shahfrien full of concentration...he came up with a new innovative invention to catch the "king prawn"...using ladies socks stuff with coconut kernels..! I wonder where he got that idea????

Visits By ITB Students

Recently the ICS controlroom received another visit by students from ITB. Prior to visiting the controlroom the students were divided into two groups and were brought for a brief tour of the BLNG plant. The first group was headed by A-shift's PA, Ahmad Hj.Morshidi while the second group was also headed by A-shift's PA, Jasmein.

The purpose of the visit was to provide the students with a first hand knowledge of the BLNG plant and its facilities and to give them a better understandings and visions of what their future career might be if they decide to choose BLNG once they completed their studies in ITB.

Taufik Farewell....

A final farewell for Taufik was held on 10-may-2007 at ICS CCR. Norhain presented a souvenir in appreciation of his contribution to A-shift. A replica of local boat or (perahu tambang) mirror Taufik hobby of fishing. A short speech from Norhain and a final speech from Taufik conclude the night.

A group of Japanese visitors paid a visit to the control room this afternoon. They were accompanied by the BLNG plant Operation Manager, Hj.Rahman Sirat who later explained to them about the plant and it's operation.

Emergency Medical First Aid Exercise

There was an emergency medical first aid excercise conducted this morning involving the shift first aiders. The exercise was conducted at RMU 1.

The purpose of the exercise is to test the response of the first aider in dealing with a real life emergency situation which require a first aid attention and at the same time to refresh their first aid skill.

Sungai Liang Forest Park Fun Walk

A monthly Fun Walk was held last Friday at the Sungai Liang Forest Park which was led by Hj.Mohd.Yusof Hj.Mohd.Taufik (HSEQ).

The objectives for the fun run/walk are to maintain the health of the workforce through inculcating individuals to take charge of their own health. Furthermore, it will foster a better rapport amongst employees’ after-work and supporting “Work-Life balance” initiatives.

As part of non-monetary reward, a souvenir will be given away for those who participate in the fun run / walk.

Recently six A-Shift staff received their certificates after attending the Scaffolding Awareness and Scaffolding Inspector training which was presented on-behalf by our GSS during the shift safety meeting.

The Scaffolding Awareness training was attended by Ahmad, Hj.Ashar & Syazni wheresas Jupry, Jasmen and Hj.Omar attended both the Awareness and Inspector trainings.

Doa Selamat and Small Makan

Yesterday A-Shift held another Doa Selamat for one of our friend Taufik who will be leaving us in May to take another post back in his home country.

Taufik has been working in BLNG for the past eighteen months and ever since joining A-Shift Taufik has always been a hard working person and helpful to others. He always contribute ideas and suggestions during the shift safety meetings and brain storming sessions.

He is also a keen angler who always joined the other shift members during their fishing trips.

On behalf of the shift members and staff we wished him good luck and best wishes in his future undertakings.

A-Shift Area Audit 2007.

On 22nd April, monthly audit for shift respective area was done at Train 5 area. Lots of finding on structural integrity, equipments fault & overall housekeeping where some actions were taken spontaneously & some were notified to relevant departmental section. Dynamic teamwork within the shift able to achieve outstanding result as per task & target.

PAKAT Of The Month for February & March

A-Shift's best PAKAT for the month of February and March went to Hiew Tung Fook and Iswandye respectively. They both won a $20 shopping voucher each which was presented by our GSS, Norhain during the shift's safety talk.

The best PAKAT reward is part of the incentive program initiated by the HSEQ department to encourage staff to do quality PAKAT.

Doa Selamat For Train 4 Start-Up

A small doa selamat was held tonite at the VIP room for the long overdue Train 4 safe start-up. The doa was read by our very own imam, Jupry. Prior to the doa, our GSS, Norhain delivered a few speech.

After the doa there was a small "free makan" for everybody.

Whitewater Rafting Trip to Kota Kinabalu

On 2nd. April 2007, six A-Shift staff consisted of Reniel, Hamizan, Faizal, Azwandi, Shahfrien and myself boarded a flight (MAS MH738 piloted by Capt. Lim K.K) to Kota Kinabalu for the extreme Padas River Whitewater Rafting trip.

Later in the afternoon, we went for a snorkeling trip to Pulau Manukan just to kill the time. The next day at 0730hrs, we went to Beaufort, joined by Hidayat of B-Shift, by van and later continued our journey using train from the Beaufort train station. We arrived at the rafting starting-point which is located midway between Beaufort and Tenom. After a short safety briefing, the whitewater rafting started. It was a combination of excitements, thrills and near- death experience when our raft capsized twice. At the end of the rafting, all of us felt very tired and exhausted. We returned back to Brunei on the 4th. April 2007 with full of sweet memories and a whole new experience.

REAL Fire Incident!

There was a real fire incident occured outside the BLNG Plant car park area this morning! A pick-up truck was caught on fire. The car belong to one of the contractor in BLNG.

Control room immediately informed the government fire brigade of the incident. No casualty was reported.

The fire fighters managed to extinguished the fire few minutes later.

Today's Fire Fighting Excercise

Today A-Shift conducted another fire fighting excercise. The scenerio of the excercise was a gas leak at T4301 bottom. Today's excercise was led by FIT Leader, Shahfren.

The aim of the excercise was to test the response of each of the team members in dealing with any real emergencies which might be encountered in the plant.

Yesterday A-Shift conducted a LIVE firefighting excercise which involved the shift's FIT members and was led by Ahmad Hj.Morshidi.

The excercise was conducted at the BLNG firefighting ground.
